Furthermore, summer camps’ activities encourage self-development and teach them essential leadership skills by teaching them how to take care of themselves outside their comfort zone, and by encouraging them to develop a stronger sense of personal pride and self-reliance.
The Kolpa River Perfect for Summer Camps
The Kolpa River is a natural beauty of southern Slovenia and the ideal place for summer camps. The Importance of 1st Aid
In an emergency, would you know how to administer CPR to your child? Or what to do if he or she child swallows a toxic substance? If not, you wouldn’t be alone!
7 in 10 parents in a study done in the UK admit that they don’t know how to help their child in a medical emergency. In fact 72% of parents wouldn’t know how to assist an unconscious child, administer CPR or attend to burns and scalds.
The reality is that in larger countries like the UK on average there are 30,000 cardiac arrests a year occur outside of hospital. But less than one in ten victims of cardiac arrest survive to be discharged from hospital. However CPR can double the chances of survival from out of hospital cardiac arrest.
The simple measure of teaching all children these skills could save thousands of lives.Simon Gillespie, Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation
1st Aid for Campers
The on-site Camp Nurses provide expert 24/7 medical treatment along with our Emergency First Responder trained staff. Regular 1st Aid refresher courses run during the camps by the Camp Nurses ensure the camp staff are always up-to-date and ready for any emergency situation. As a result our campers are always taken care of at all times.
Perhaps more importantly though the Camp Nurses run voluntary 1st Aid sessions for the campers for the duration of the week. At the beginning of the week campers can choose to take short 30 min sessions every day to build their emergency response skills and help them ultimately save lives. This will cover topics from CPR, to broken bones, to burns and allergic reactions. At the end of it they receive important Explorer Camp 1st Aid certificates.
Winding Down after a Long Day
Campers sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows and singing songs is the typical image you see at evenings at summer camps. While campfires are an essential part of the camp experience — they should only be the beginning.
Essentially it’s the evening time when a majority of campers make those connections and build upon those personal relationships. As a result it’s important to have structures in place that are more than the normal camp fire experience. Activities should focus on the campers’ needs as one day they may be tired. While on another day the children need something more activity. At the end of the day it’s about listening to the campers and creating something inline to their desires and mood.
Evenings at Explorer Camps
At the end of each day Explorer campers traditionally begin with a group reflection. Their Counselors encourage campers to open up and share their experiences from the day. Firstly they may speak about what they enjoyed that day. Then perhaps areas they felt weren’t good enough. And maybe even talk about their concerns. As a result campers learn how to express their opinions and to seek changes in the day-to-day flow of camps.
Even though a large part of the summer camps in Slovenia are the campfires – and the treats that go with them – often it’s the fun and the highlights are the fun and sometimes crazy activities after them. To begin with the evening fun is always split up into aged based groups to enhance the experience for the Juniors, Tweens or Teens. And then each group will participate in a wide range of potential activities including:
- Night swimming in the indoor pool
- Jacuzzi party
- Games night
- Minute-to-win-it games
- Movie marathon
- Trust walk in the dark
- Who done it?
- Scavenger hunts
