Building Empathy

“Learning to stand in somebody else’s shoes, to see through their eyes, that’s how peace begins.  And it’s up to you to make that  happen.  Empathy is a quality of character that can  change the world.” – Barack Obama

Explorer Camps is teaming up with charity

Anina Zvezdica to help underpriviliged  children smile a little more this Christmas. In the process we’re hoping to help build more empathy and compassion amongst our campers giving them an advantage for life.

“The number one critical skill that workers of the future will need to be successful is not technical knowledge but empathy” – Geoff Colvin

Explorer Camps Social Work

Anina's Little Star

Anina's Little Star is a non-profit organisation that supports families in need every year. With the help of businesses, schools, donations, and the good will of the public they provide help in the way of food, clothing, bedding, personal hygiene products, house hold needs etc. The key is that they work from the heart with complete love which makes them a perfect fit for Explorer Camps.

Shoe Box Donations

Explorer Campers bring a shoe box each from home to camp packed with personal  items e.g. toys, school material, hygiene products, clothing, chocolate etc. While on camp campers write a personal note to the the intended recipiant demonstrating true compassion. The boxes are wrapt for Christmas and then passed on to Anina's Little Star who distribute them to needy children during December.

Positive Outcomes

Most importantly over a hundred needy children will experience happiness and love because of the empathy and compassion shown by our campers. This is priceless. Our campers themselves will develop better mental health; be happier; lower their stress levels; have greater leadership qualities; increase their kindness towards others; and lead to a higher chance of professional success.
