AUSTRIAN WINTER COVID REGULATIONS

Are you wondering what winter covid regulations will be in Austria this Christmas? It’s certainly that’s been on our mind, especially when it comes to children …

Explorer International Kids’ Camps has done the research for you! Our kids’ camps based in Obertauern, Austria are set to go ahead with the latest news from the Austrian government that outline the potential restrictions in place not only for skiing but also accommodation within this region.

general restrictions

  • To enter Austria you’ll need to be fully vaccinated, have a negative PCR test or a certified letter of recovery.
  • Children under the age of 12 can enter Austria without a test IF they’re accompanied by a parent who is fully vaccinated.
  • Children between the ages of 12 and 17 will still need to present a negative PCR test on arrival even when they’re accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent.
  • On the slopes, a negative PCR test needs to be presented every 72 hours for those children NOT fully vaccinated between the ages of 12 and 17.
  • In Obertauern (I can’t answer for other ski resorts) home PCR tests will be provided at the local supermarket FOR FREE. Tourists can pick these up, do the test and return them where they’ll be processed FOR FREE.
  • FFP mask has to be worn in chairlift (with hood) or cable car.

On a side note, many hotels in Obertauern (where our Winter Camps are located this Christmas) are processing the PCR tests on-site then taking them to the centre to be completed. Of course there are some details that need to be decided on this, however it’s clear that all resorts in this region are going ahead as normal as long as these protocols are met.

Travelling from non-eu countries

  • If you provide proof of vaccination (double shot at this time), or a medical certificate of full immunisation, you do not have to self-isolate or register upon entry.
  • If you can not provide the above proof, you need to isloate for 10 days on arrival.
  • Children up to the age of 12 don’t have to provide a test result if travelling under supervision of an adult. If the accompanying adult has to self-isolate, the child must self-isolate too.
  • Children aged 12-18 must self-isolate and register on arrival, unless they or the adult travelling with them are exempt from self-isolation.
  • Note that there are some countries from outside the EU that don’t need quarantine on arrival e.g. Canada, Singapore, Saudi Arabia.
  • There are also countries currently on the red list which means quaratine is mandatory.

What is clear is that traveling to the ski fields of Austria from within the EU is a relatively simple venture, and something all residents are able to do as long as the protocols are followed. Even those coming from outside of the EU are able to, which is terrific news for all ski enthusiasts!

Really great news for Explorer Winter Camps, and also kids from around the world as skiing in Austria just got that little bit easier!
