A Teen Summer Camp Experience – Anu from Israel

A Teen Summer Camp Experience

The teen summer camp experience at Explorer Camps is definitely a special one with children traveling from over 33 different countries every year. But what makes it special that teenagers come back year after year?

Let’s ask Anu from Israel who spent two weeks on camp as her her insight definitely gives an interesting view on the teen summer camp experience.

Thanks for taking part in this interview Anu. Can you tell us a little about where you live.

No problem. I live a life in Israel just like any other teenager. I go to school, hang out with my friends, do my homework, play with my younger brother.

Why did you want to leave Israel to go to a summer camp in Europe?

Going to summer camp was always a dream I had since I was a child. So, when I was old enough my friends and I started searching for the best camp. We were looking for a camp that suited our budget, had lots of cool activities and children our age. When we found Explorer Camps it wasn’t too expensive, had lots of really cool activities, and most importantly had a group for our age. So we contacted the Camp Director Steve, and he helped us a lot with all our questions and planning.

What were you most looking forward to when you came to camp?

I was really looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends.

What was your first impression of Slovenia when you arrived? Was there anything about this country that surprised you?

It was my first time in Slovenia and I was amazed. Everything is very green. Slovenia is full of nature. I was surprised when I heard the Slovene language because I didn’t know what to expect. It sounds like Russian but it’s two completely different languages.

What were you favourite memories of camp?

Definitely meeting new people from all around the world, and spending time with them for 2 weeks. We became true friends and spent all of our time together.

What was your biggest challenge while on camp? Did you overcome it?

…. Waking up in the morning 😊 However, I had to quickly overcome this as I didn’t want to miss out on breakfast!

What is one moment when you laughed the most?

Once we were kayaking in the rain and we started a splash fight (see picture). I tried to stand up and splash someone with all of my power but instead I fell out of the kayak into the cold water. That was extremely funny.

Coming away from camp, how do you think you benefitted from the experience?

I know I learnt to speak English much better, and I learnt a lot about different cultures and countries that my friends came from. The biggest thing though was that I made amazing new friends that I love.

What advice would you give a new camper?

Be open to try new things and take advantage of every moment because two weeks passes very quickly.

You have to build a house out of an edible product. What would it be and why?

Lollipops. They’re solid and strong, and whenever I want something sweet I could just lick my house and it’d never finish!

Thank you Anu for your wonderful memories from camp!
