Top 6 Reasons to Send Your Child on an Explorer Winter Camp
Children from all around the world join the Explorer Camps family during the winter to experience that special magic and power so unique to our winter programs.
The Felseralm in Obertauern, Austria is truly a place like no other, where Explorer staff are able to create a warm, caring and welcoming environment which your child will simply not want to leave! Below are 6 reasons as to why over 70% of our campers come back to our camps year after year.
1) Unplug from Technology & Switch on to Nature
“Unforgettable experience for my brother and I. We are from Portland Oregon and have gone to many outdoor camps, but this beats them all.” – Morgan, USA
Our stunning location in Obertauern, Austria is the perfect place for your child to get away from their screens for a week and enjoy the wonders of nature. Only a 5 min drive away from the ski slopes, our family hotel is located in a secluded area surrounded by forest, set beneath a backdrop of stunning mountains. Out on its own in the heart of nature it really is the PERFECT winter paradise for your child!
2) Warm and Caring Counselors
“What makes the camp so fantastic is the staff – a group of people who are highly trained and qualified, responsible, fun and positive.” Rachael, Ireland
Our experienced Explorer team is the heart of our camps. Their days are dedicated to not only ensuring your child is physically safe, but also to giving truly personal attention, enabled by our excellent camper to staff ratio of 4:1. Above all they strive to help your child smile and develop a great sense of self-worth, self-confidence and overall happiness.
3: Real-Life Lessons
“My daughter grew as a person, learned so many new skills from the friendly counsellors and from the diverse community of campers. She learned as well how to pass some of her knowledge and skills to other campers.” – Suzanna, Slovenia
Developing real-life skills is at the core of our winter camp, as we understand how many skills cannot be taught in a classroom, at a sleepover party, in a social skills group or through a textbook. Campers make memories that last a lifetime and gain life-long friendships, but more importantly they also develop resilience, compassion, patience, self-awareness, and much, much more. Your child will leave with a guaranteed smile on their face, but also a whole host of newly developed and honed life skills which will set them up for life.
4: Pick Up and Drop off from Ljubljana and Salzburg Airports Included
“My kids have been to Explorer International Kids’ Camp for 4 years now and every year they come back a little more confident and with an ever-growing network of friends who live all over the world. The activities and “no phone” policy get them out and busy having fun and the counsellors encourage the kids to develop new skills and challenge themselves.” Verity – Germany
Our international campers are taken care of with a FREE pick up offered from Ljubljana city centre, Ljubljana Airport or Salzburg Airport. This includes a welcome at the arrivals lounge on the opening day, and also support with check in and departure on the final day. This serves as a real added bonus for all our families.
5: Free Covid Cancellation
“Steve, the director, made us feel as we would send him to a relative’s home. Not only during the two weeks of the camp but also before, answering all our questions quickly and efficiently. An excellent camp!” – Gorka, Spain
We’re more than a camp, we’re a caring community. What this means is that we treat all our Explorer families with understanding and respect when it comes to any cancellations which might occur due to Covid. If the camp cannot go ahead due to changes in government policy all payments will be fully refunded, while if a camper cancels due to a Covid-related illness then payment will be returned in full, less the 100€ non-refundable deposit. We simply don’t want to penalise our families for any situations outside of our control.
6: All Levels of Skiers/ Snowboarders Welcome
“My son would sometimes lack self-belief, but at camp he escapes himself – joining in with everything and feeling part of a team.” – Ed, UK
The true beauty of Explorer winter camps lies in the fact that Obertauern offers amazing snow conditions for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, with over 100 km of well-connected slopes in a natural snow bowl high in the Alps. Certified instructors from Obertauern teach groups of up to 8 with the assistance of a snow savvy Explorer staff member, while more advanced skiiers and snowboarders are given a little more freedom in our guided ski sessions that take them all over the mountain. There’s absolutely something for everyone.
